China Auditions: A Visit to China's Premiere Conservatories
Dean Laurence Kaptain and Conservatory faculty (and Audubon Quartet members) Clyde Shaw and Doris Lederer visited Beijing and Shanghai to build the infrastructure for October 2008 auditions, while holding some preliminary auditions, and meeting prospective students and faculty.
Monday March 10th marked a visit and tour of China's renowned Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM). The Shenandoah party was hosted by the Deputy Director of CCOM, Prof. Liu Hongzhu. Kaptain, Shaw and Lederer met students, faculty, staff and toured the impressive campus of 1,500 students and 700 faculty, staff and administration.
On Wednesday March 12, it was on to Shanghai Conservatory where we met with Chen Xiaoyi, director of the International Exchange Center and Zhu Dandan--a member of her staff (and musicologist).
